ST TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WLOX) -

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Daniel Alex Coy, 25, has been released from jail on a $80,000 bond.

Coy, of Gulfport, was previously arrested and charged with negligent homicide in a Interstate 10 crash that killed 26-year-old Steven Shawn Clark, of Alabama, on Nov. 3. Police say Coy, who initially refused extradition, was taken to the St. Tammany Parish jail on Monday.

Investigators say that Coy attempted to pass an 18-wheeler before hitting the front of the truck, forcing it into the same lane as another 18-wheeler driven by Clark. Clark's truck, which contained 40,000 pounds of industrial paper products, was pushed over a cement barrier and into the Pearl River.

Coy fled the scene of the accident, but was taken into custody on Nov. 5.
