MDEQ warns about swimming in certain waters off South Mississippi shores

If you are planning to hit the beach, there are now two sections of water in the Mississippi Sound that you want to avoid. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a water contact advisory Wednesday for Waveland Beach from Oak Boulevard to Favre Street.

The water contact advisory issued last week for Ocean Springs' Shearwater Beach from Holcomb Boulevard to Ashley Place remains in effect.

Monday MDEQ lifted a water contact advisory for Pascagoula Beach West.

MDEQ warns if you swim in these sections of the Mississippi Sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.

MDEQ will lift the advisories when water samples show that levels are safe for human contact again.
