GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A large crowd of students, veterans and residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home attended the annual Veterans Day tribute at the Gulfport facility.

Guest speaker, retired Gen. Joe Spraggins urged everyone to say "thank you" to anyone wearing the uniform. He told the crowd that veterans and their families deserve our utmost respect for their sacrifice and service.

Spraggins said the most difficult thing he's ever done is present a folded flag to a grieving widow at a graveside service when a soldier was killed.

The crowd was entertained by some talented young people from the WINGS group at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center. They read patriotic poems and sang some familiar military tunes.
