Parents arrested after Waveland boy tests positive for meth

WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

A Waveland husband and wife are charged with child abuse after their five-year-old son tested positive for meth. 

The Mississippi Department of Human Services began investigating Erik and Jessica Hammond after receiving reports of physical abuse and meth use inside the home. Waveland Police Chief David Allen said a court ordered drug test on the little boy came back positive for meth, and both parents were arrested Wednesday. 

Jessica Hammond, 29, and Erik Hammond, 33, are both charged with Felony Child Abuse. Erik faces an additional count of Misdemeanor Child Abuse. Jessica is already out on an $80,000 bond. Erik's bond was set at $105,000, but he's being held by the Probation and Parole Division of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
