GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

There has been yet another delay for a Gulfport road project — the widening of Three Rivers Road from Airport Road to Creosote Road was expected to be complete by the end of October, didn't happen.

Local business owners say the project has been a construction mess for the past few months.

"We're just trying to deal with it and get through it as best as we can," Rebecca Fairley said.

Fairley owns Panache Apparel and Accessories and says while it's been hard to stay busy while construction is going on, the daily progress is promising.

"A lot of our customers have come in and said that they feel like it's getting better, which is comforting to us," Fairley said.

Fairley says the constant updates about the project from city officials is also comforting, adding that she and other local business owners recently received a letter with a new contract schedule that says the project will be done by Saturday.

"We saw the message and I just kind of smiled and said, 'Okay guys, however you do it, it'll work out.'" Lynn Munn said.

Gulfport's Director of Engineering Kris Reimann told WLOX that while a Saturday completion will not happen, he's hopeful the project will be complete by Thanksgiving; when business picks up at Armstrong McCall Professional Beauty Supply where Munn is the manager.

"We do have a little increase in traffic during the holiday season," Munn said.

Munn hopes this is the last delay before the holidays so business can go back to normal.

"The full pavement is done now, there's still cones with two not five, but we'd love to see it done before then," Munn added.
