MDEQ: Beware of swimming in these waters

If you are planning to hit the beach, there are now three sections of water in the Mississippi Sound that you want to avoid. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a water contact advisory Thursday for Pascagoula Beach West from Oliver Street to Westwood Street.

The water contact advisories issued earlier for Waveland and Ocean Springs remain in effect. Along Waveland Beach the advisory is from Oak Boulevard to Favre Street and in Ocean Springs the advisory is along Shearwater Beach from Holcomb Boulevard to Ashley Place.

MDEQ warns if you swim in these sections of the Mississippi sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.

MDEQ will lift the advisories When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact again.
