WLOX Editorial: We applaud Diamondhead leaders for protecting all of us from second hand smoke in their city
The City of Diamondhead is outlawing smoking in public buildings beginning January first. Some people contend this action is an infringement on the rights of smokers. We disagree.
This move is not designed to infringe on the rights of smokers, but rather to protect the rights of nonsmokers to be free of second hand smoke. Second hand smoke kills 40,000 people in the U.S. each year. Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in the United States.
We applaud Diamondhead city leaders for protecting the smoke free breathing rights of nonsmokers. That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to email@example.com.
