It's getting down to the niddy gritty in the high school football ranks. Next Friday the 4A and 3A playoffs get underway, while classes 6A, 5A and 1A start playoff action on November 13.
The Friday Night Football Showdown will decide the Region 4-6A champion at Milner Stadium. That's where a battle of unbeaten region teams go head-to-head...Ocean Springs at Gulfport.
Both the Greyhounds and Admirals are 5 and 0 in the region race with 2 weeks remaining. A victory tonight would wrap-up the No. 1 seed. Both teams play excellent defense and both teams love to run the football.
That doesn't mean they never take to the airways. Ocean Springs quarterback Drew Windham is a highly capable passer with junior standout Austin Williams a prime-time receiver. Admirals quarterback Cleveland Ford and backup Rhodes Walker have come up with timely passes. Alton Conerly is usually the big-play receiver the Admirals rely on when Gulfport is facing third and long.
The Ocean Springs-Gulfport game will be one of six that will be featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown beginning at 10:15 p.m. on WLOX-ABC/CBS, followed by the Post Game Show on WLOX.com.
Harrison Central travels to D'Iberville in another Region 4-6A showdown. The Red Rebels and Warriors are both 3 and 2 in the region standings, vying to secure one of the four playoff positions with one week to go before the playoffs hit the turf.
St. Martin has recorded a 3-2 Region 4-6A record as well. The Yellow Jackets travel to Lucedale facing the 1 and 4 George County Rebels, another team loaded with offensive talent.

There a big showdown between Bay High and Moss Point at Dantzler Stadium. The two Tigers are fighting for a playoff slot in the Region 8-4A ranks.
St. Stanislaus has already captured the Region 8-4A title and will travel to Pass Christian. The Pirates need an upset win to lock-up a playoff position, something Pass Christian hasn't done since 2003.
East Central is the No. 2 seed in the Region 8-4A standings. The Hornets travel to Vancleave where the Bulldogs need to beat East Central and need Moss Point to knock off Bay High to jump into the playoffs next Friday.
Resurrection is on the road at Lumberton. Both teams are tied for first atop the Region 4-1A ranks at 4 and 0. The winner locks down the title and the No. 1 seed.
