D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - It's a homecoming, any military family would love.
"We see each other Skype so this is going to be our opportunity to say, 'Hey daddy's home,'" Sgt. 1st Class Deronnious Heidelberg said.
Sgt. Heidelberg has been deployed in Turkey for more than a year and now he's back home on the Gulf Coast for a visit. The first thing on his to-do list — surprise his 3-year-old princess, Gabrielle, in her preschool class.
"I was like, 'Where is she? Like, where is my baby? This is not my baby. This is a toddler,'" Deronnious replied in laughter.
Heidelberg says people often forget that when military members have to leave family, they are leaving a part of themselves.
"Oh, that is so heart warming. To see how she just couldn't stop hugging him. Oh, it's so exciting," his wife Angela Heidelberg said.
Heidelberg will be home for two weeks, then he'll be off for his next special assignment. He says seeing his baby girl made him proud, and he hopes to be back home before the Christmas holiday.
"I have nothing but praises for what they've done while I've been out doing hat I needed to do. It's a great thing to be able to see my princess and to see how she's been taken care of," Deronnious said.
