POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) - PRCC has had incredible success on the soccer fields this season. The Lady Wildcats have posted a 13-1 record and depending on weather conditions, will play in the MACJC State Tournament this weekend.
Lyndsey Lee and Sarah Fortenberry have become known as the Dynamic Duo. They are major factors on why Pearl River takes aim on a possible third state title in four seasons.
Lee has used her speed and quickness in scoring 45 points on 16 goals and 13 assists. Fortenberry has netted 32 points on 12 goals and eight assists.
The Dynamic Duo has been playing against or with each other since they were about 10-years-old.
"We were maybe 12 or 13 when we first played together, maybe a little later, and we played against each other before that, "said Lee.
LEE grew up in Picayune and played for Gulf Coast United while Fortenberry attended Forrest County AHS. Later the one time rivals joined forces and played together for Gulf Coast United as members all the way through the U-19 team.
Lee was a standout soccer player at Our Lady Academy, before knee injuries curtailed her overall success in high school.
After high school Lee and Fortenberry played soccer at Southern Miss, but they would later decide to transfer to Pearl River Community College.
"We both wanted the challenge, and we thought D-1 would give us that, "Lee said. "It's just that we were out of our element. We talked about it together and we thought we needed to be where we could be most happy playing."
Fortenberry said, "We're just sisters, I guess. I couldn't tell you why. It's just a connection. We've just bonded from playing together over the years. It's just something natural. We know where each other is on the field."
Pearl River head coach Jack Byrd says both players are born natural goal-scorers.
"What makes them great is that they are good teammates, "stated Byrd. "They're both unselfish players. They could each have 30 goals, but they make the extra pass, playing a back-line player in for a score."
Last weekend the Dynamic Duo helped lead PRCC past Jones in the South Division finals.
Lee scored the game tying goal in the second half, then the two played a big role in the game-winner by Delaney Gustafson 20 seconds into the second overtime period.
Once the 2015 season ends you can expect the Dynamic Duo will sign with a four-year college to continue their friendship and super soccer play as teammates at the same school.
