Resurrection, OLA and Hancock ready for the South State Volleyball finals

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

No. 6 ranked Hancock and No. 2 ranked Oak Grove meet in the Class III South State Championship Volleyball finals Tuesday night at 6 in the Kiln.  Last season Hancock beat the Lady Warriors to advance to the state finals.

Head coach Rick Rechtien has his 24 and 10 Lady Hawks facing the Lady Warriors for the third time this season, looking to get over the hump.  Oak Grove won the first two head-to-head meetings.

Catie Ladner and Rylee Swilley have been two key offensive weapons for Hancock and both must come through Tuesday night.  The Lady Hawks duo each have recorded 269 kills.

Coach Rechtien said, "I feel really good.  I feel like we're probably in the best place we've been all year long right now.  We are very young but they're good athletes, very dedicated, very happy with the progress that we've made to this point."

Rechtien, who served as the Lady Hawks assistant coach, took over the head coaching reins this season and he said it took a little time for he and the players to form a cohesive unit.

Swilley said, "We know what we have to do to get points, to score, to win and I'm really excited to execute that."

Brooke Fagan added, "I think if we go out and play our game and play to the best of our ability and leave it all on the court, we'll be alright."

The Class I South State Volleyball Championship has come down to two teams from South Mississippi.  Resurrection travels to Our Lady Academy Tuesday night at 6 for the Lady Eagles-Crescents third confrontation this season.

The defending State Champion Crescents have netted two wins over Resurrection during the regular season and OLA captured the Region title.

The Lady Eagles are 24-4-1 on the season under head coach Keith Tucker and senior Jada Williams leads the Resurrection attack with 401 kills.

Our Lady Academy is led by sophomore sensation Emma Funk.  coach Mike Myers has been pleased with the young volleyball player who was a member of the 2014 State Championship team.  Funk has piled up 580 kills.

WLOX will have game highlights from the Oak Grove-Hancock and Resurrection-OLA games Tuesday night at ten.
