High school baseball players are receiving a golden opportunity to use a wooden bat thanks to former Major League catcher Barry Lyons who came up with the idea.
Lyons, a Biloxi native, brought the idea to the Biloxi Shuckers and Overtime Sports and they gave their approval to host the baseball games at MGM Park.
Players from the Mississippi Gulf Coast will compete in two Showcase Games beginning Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The 9th and 10th grade players will play the first game and the second game will feature high school juniors and seniors. Game two is slated to get underway at 7:15 p.m.
Admission is free and a concession stand will be open to those attending the games at MGM Park.
