Gulf Coast Officials Association President Joe Davis told WLOX on Monday that he's been in negotiations with Mississippi High School Activities Association Executive Director Don Hinton.
Davis says he's been trying to hammer out a deal that would end the local basketball officials strike and open the way for a new deal that would appease both sides and have the officials ready to officiate the new basketball season.
Davis said he couldn't go into detail but was encouraged following Monday's talks with Hinton.
A regularly scheduled meeting of the Gulf Coast Officials Association is slated for Wednesday and Davis says he will discuss the MHSAA talks with his members.
Local basketball officials want a pay raise of $10 per game and the MHSAA offered $5.
Jamboree games are slated to tip-off this coming Saturday.
