VANCLEAVE, MS (WLOX) - A Vancleave teen is recovering after being shot when he walked in on an intruder in his home after church. It happened Sunday, just before noon, at a home on Carter Homestead Road in Vancleave.
When sheriff's deputies arrived, they found the 17 year old victim lying on the open tailgate of a truck. The gunshot wound wasn't life threatening. He was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital where he's now in stable condition.
The victim said he came home from church and surprised the intruder. A struggle ensued, during which the teen was able to retrieve his father's gun. But to the teen's surprise, he was the one shot with the gun.
Investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department are currently investigating several leads.
