BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - In 2013, a movie crew descended on the Mississippi Coast to shoot the film "Artists Die Best in Black." They used locations around the area.
The film is done and producer Mark Headley is excited about the final product.
"I'm very proud of the work. It's a Gothic murder mystery shot entirely on the Mississippi Coast. It was shot in Ocean Springs, Biloxi and up and down the Coast. It's good work," said Headley.
"Artists Die Best in Black" will have its world premiere Sunday at the Saenger Theater in Biloxi. Headley believes Mississippi is fertile ground for future film production.
"Everyone is leaving Hollywood. They're going to Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi. Mississippi has a terrific rebate program and southern hospitality. The people are great. The crew is great. Locations are great. This is the place to make movies now," Headley said.
Like all movie projects, "Artists Die Best in Black" took time and effort to get to this point. Headley is working on distribution deals and thinks the independent film will deliver a positive return.
"This film is projected to make a few million dollars. We're pleased. The investors are happy. It's going to do very well," Headley said.
They'll roll out the red carpet for the world premiere of "Artists Die Best in Black," Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Saenger Theater.
The first 100 people to come by the Saenger box office between 2 p.m. and 4pm Sunday will receive free tickets.
