GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi National Guard will host this year's annual Southern Strike at the Combat Readiness Training Center in Gulfport from Oct. 25 to Nov. 6.
Approximately 2,000 service members from both active and reserve components in every branch of the U.S. military service, including Army, Navy, and Marine Special Operations force, will participate in the joint international combat exercise.
Southern Strike is a robust display of counterinsurgency, air supremacy, close air support, en route casualty care, non-combatant evacuation, and maritime Special Operations events. Virtually every aircraft type in the U.S. military inventory will participate, with over 750 sorties scheduled.
Portions of the fourth annual exercise will also take place at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center south of Hattiesburg.
