JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A report of a suspicious vehicle early Thursday morning led to a high speed chase and multiple drug related arrests in Jackson County.

Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies received a call about a suspicious vehicle at the Magnuson Hotel on Washington Avenue around 1 a.m. When deputies responded, they saw the described vehicle leaving the hotel’s parking lot and turning north on Washington Avenue.

Ezell said a deputy followed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop when the driver ran a red light and turned onto Interstate 10. The driver did not respond to the blue lights and sirens and fled at a high rate of speed westbound on the interstate, according to officials.

Ezell said the chase continued until the vehicle spun out while trying to leave the interstate at exit 46C onto Lamey Bridge Road.

Ezell said the driver, 29-year-old Shane Weldon Johnson, and passenger, 29-year-old Ashleigh Elizabeth Johnson, were taken into custody.

Shane is charged with felony evasion, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a weapon and possession of paraphernalia. Ashleigh is charged with possession of paraphernalia.

Ezell said after the chase ended, deputies went back to the Magnuson Hotel to check the area. That’s where they found David Wayne Shaver, 32, and Jamie Raffeo, 35, sitting in a car in the parking lot.

Ezell said Gautier Police Department K9 officer Ben McQuagge and his partner Ceaser found several grams of methamphetamine in the car. Shaver is charged with possession of methamphetamine, and Raffeo was arrested for several outstanding warrants with the Gulfport Police Department.
