GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Gulfport Police have arrested a man accused of raping and robbing a 78-year-old woman at her home late Sunday night. Deltber Keyes, 44, is charged with Kidnapping, Rape, and Robbery.

The sexual assault happened at a home on 25th Street. The victim said she heard noises outside and went to investigate when she came face to face with the attacker, who forced her back into her home where he raped her. Investigators said the man also took an undisclosed amount of money.

Police made the case their top priority Monday. Officers spent the day patrolling the neighborhood, tracking down video, and interviewing as many people as possible. They credit an anonymous tip with helping them identify Keyes as a suspect.

Officers arrested Keyes at a home in the 700 block of 26th Street, just down the road from where the crime occurred. Right now, they don't know if Keyes once lived in the area. At the time of his arrest, he was visiting family on 26th Street.

This absolutely exemplifies why the community and the police work together hand in hand. So this is a success story not only for the police but for the community and how we tend to do business,” said Deputy Chief Chris Loposser.

Keyes will be held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility in lieu of a one million dollar bond set by Harrison County.
