BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - The City of Bay St. Louis is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. WLOX News confirmed the investigation through Bay St. Louis City Councilman Lonnie Falgout.
Falgout said the investigation centers around police drug forfeiture money.
Police Chief Mike Denardo recently wanted to spend money from the account to buy police equipment, but was not able to find out how much is in the account.
Falgout said the reason the DOJ has been called in is because drug forfeiture money belongs to the police department and not the City of Bay St. Louis. The councilman said no one seems to know how much money is in the account or how the money has been spent in the past.
It's not clear right now how long the investigation will last or who will be interviewed. Of course, WLOX will continue to follow the story on-air and online.
