JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A fitting tribute to a fallen law enforcement officer was revealed Monday. Jackson County supervisors announced the new $27 million Jackson County jail that's under construction will be named in honor of deputy Bruce Wayne Evans.

Evans was killed in the line of duty in July of 2000. Family members, including his widow, and his two children were present for the announcement. When the jail opens later this year, his name will be prominently displayed throughout the building. And the family is grateful for that.

"It's been a long hard road I guess, but we're still proud of him everyday and this is just a huge honor and a way to remember him," said Blake Evans' daughter.

Meanwhile, a ribbon cutting ceremony and public tours of the jail are scheduled for a week from Thursday.
