Families and friends enjoy opening day of Jackson County Fair

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Every third weekend in October, families and friends are invited out to the Jackson County Fairgrounds for a good time in a safe environment. Even though there's games and rides for children, the adults were out having just as much fun.

"I enjoy the prizes and the people and watching everybody have fun!" Ginger Piwledge said.

"This is one of the last, if not the last free fair. We charge nothing to come in, we have reasonable prices and we have security," Fair Association President Eddie Russell said.

And you can't forget the good fair food.

"Polish sausage!" Synella Carter said in excitement.
"Gumbo!" her friend screamed from behind. "Soloman Temple had some good gumbo down there. That shrimp gumbo is delicious! Yes it is!"

Besides indulging in the fair food, this group of friends say they thought it was important to show their support to fair organizers after church.

"I think we should come together as one nation and support whatever we have here," Carter said.

In a safe environment, families and friends can have fun together as one coast community.

"There's so much going on in the word and if we can just come together and be one family, unite as one," Carter said.

Just like the old adage "it takes a village to raise a child", it also takes a village to put a big event like this together, and the fair association pride themselves in providing a fair for communities to enjoy.

"We have 20 people that we couldn't make it without any one of us making the fair work and it does a good job," Russell said.
