SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Forestry Service is monitoring two fires Sunday afternoon.
The first fire is in a heavily wooded the southwest corner of Stone County. While officials do not know an exact acreage, they do know that it is fairly large. The fire began around 9 a.m., no structures are currently threatened. There is no word at this time on containment numbers.
The second fire is in Pearl River County, in the Poplarville area. Authorities say the large fire began around 10 a.m., and is 25 percent contained.
Neither fire is threatening homes, though smoke may be an issue for residents living in either area.
Forestry officials are reminding everyone not to conduct burns of any kind, for safety of both residents and responders.
