St. Stanislaus was the preseason favorite to capture the Region 4-5A title. The Rochachaws find themselves sharing the top spot in the region standings with East Central, both undefeated at 2 and 0.
St. Stanislaus head coach Bill Conides runs a prolific passing attack, led by Myles Brennan. The junior quarterback has completed 61 percent of his pass attempts for 2,574 yards, 23 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
Tight end Chase Rogers, another junior standout, leads Rockachaw receivers with 50 catches for 890 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Rogers said, "Me and Myles have been friends I think since kindergarten and we've always connected real well during the game and at practice. We make all our passes and I guess I'm a big target and he sees me running down the field and hits me.
"The amount of work we've put in, just the timing and the amount of time we have spent together working on these routes has paid off, "said Brennan. "Just the relationship day-in and day-out , it has really showed."
East Central runs a completely different offensive attack when compared to St. Stanislaus. The Hornets rely on a rushing attack.
Rockachaws head coach Bill Conides said, "Big, physical. They're going to try to run the football, try to grind the clock out and that's something they're really good at."
The Hornets sting the opposition on the ground behind A.J. Davis.
The senior running back has powered his way through defensive teams for 1,546 yards, crossing the goal line 11 times.
Coach Seth Smith says Davis and all his East Central players are giving their all on each and every play.
"What A.J. does, he embodies the rest of our kids, "stated Smith. "These are some of the finest young men that we've been fortunate enough to coach."
The St. Stanislaus at East Central game in Hurley will be one of six games that will be featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown on WLOX-ABC/CBS at 10:15 p.m. with A.J. Giardina and Tyler Bouldin.
