HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Hancock County Food Pantry is able to feed a lot more families in need thanks to a big donation from the Walmart Foundation. The foundation's Giving Program recently presented the pantry a check for $30,000.
Pantry leaders say the donation will allow them to increase their food inventory to put food on the table for hundreds of needy families.
They say with the holidays just around the corner the donation could not have come at a better time. John Wittliff is treasurer of the food pantry. "It will buy enough food for over two months," Wittliff noted. "That's a lot of food for us. A significant contribution that we really do appreciate."
Last year the Walmart Foundation's Giving Program Awarded more than $14 million to local organizations through cash and in-kind donations in Mississippi alone.
