Crews battling Jackson County wildfire

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Firefighters from several departments and agencies are working a wildfire spanning several acres in Jackson County. The fire is forcing officials to shut down Old Fort Bayou Road from Lancaster Boulevard to Rose Farm Road.

Frank Duke, Assistant Chief of the Jackson County Fire Department, said the fire is located in the 4700 block of Old Fort Bayou Road.

Duke said the blaze sparked around 2:30 p.m. and has been growing. He said the fire is about 30 percent contained at this time.

Duke said officials with Mississippi Forestry, Northwest Fire, Central Fire and the Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge are on the scene.
