Public Gets Input On Environmental Spending

This week, you will have a chance to tell the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) how you think it should spend millions of dollars in new federal funds.

Public meetings will be held in all three coastal counties this week. At the meetings, officials from DEQ will explain the Coastal Impact Assistance Program.

Mississippi is expected to receive between 18 and 26 million dollars to protect and improve the environment. The coast will get 35 percent of that.

The DEQ wants to know how you think the money should be spent.

  • The meetings begin Monday in Hancock County. The first will be held in the Hancock County Civic Center, which is located at 3066 Longfellow Drive in Bay St. Louis.
  • On Wednesday, a meeting will be held at the Department of Marine Resources, located at 1141 Bayview Avenue in Biloxi.
  • And Thursday's meeting will be at Jackson County Fair Hall, located at 2902 Shortcut Road in Pascagoula.
  • All of the meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.
