WLOX Editorial: Fire heroes

It was four in the morning when smoke filled an assisted living home in Jackson County, putting 36 residents in immediate danger. But five Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies did not hesitate to enter the building without protection to help evacuate everyone.

We live in times when law enforcement officers are too often criticized. Their jobs are sometimes very dangerous. And we salute these deputies as they continue to "serve and protect."

Captain Mick Sears called it one of the most satisfying mornings and a shift he won't soon forget. We call it a great morning that so many more also, won't soon forget.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com.
