ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - St. Martin quarterback Wayne Overman directed the Yellow Jackets attack. The 6-foot, 205 pound junior passed for 194 yards with 3 touchdowns.
He added 85 yards rushing, netting 9.4 yards a carry and bagged one TD.
Wide receiver Kaleb Clark is a 6-foot senior who tips the scales at 135 pounds. He's not considered a big wide out, but he consistently makes big plays. In the Yellow Jackets win over Harrison Central, Clark hauled-in 3 passes for an average of 35 yards a catch. Two of them went the distance, 21 yards and 43 yards.
Clark and Overman are WLOX Co-Players of the Week.
"My job as quarterback is to get the ball in their hands as quickly as possible, "stated Overman. "We have really good athletic wide receivers and they make plays. So, credit to the line and the receivers."
Clark was unavailable for an interview. Coach Whitehead says despite Clark's 135 pounds, he can burn the turf.
Coach Whitehead said, "He's pretty skinny but he's a good player. He can run, jump, catch and as you can see Friday he really turned it on. He can accelerate when he needs to."
Overman and company, including Clark, Tyler Polk and Kalem Reddix give opposing defenses fits.
The 6 and 1 Yellow Jackets are 2 and 1 in the Region 4-6A standings. St. Martin will entertain Biloxi Friday night at 7 looking to win a third straight region game.
