PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - If you have dreamed of a career in law enforcement, the Pascagoula Police Department wants to hear from you. The department has four openings for entry level police officers with a starting pay of about $30,000 a year. Applicants must pass background checks and physical fitness tests.
Officials said, while the job offers two weeks paid vacation and education grants, most people join the force for other reasons.
"It is something that you are basically called to do," said Lt. Doug Adams. "A lot of police officers are ex - military folk or their family members have been police officers. The job is very rewarding due to the fact that you get to help people every day. In this line of work sometimes it may be just changing a flat tire. Other times it maybe because they've been seriously injured in a car wreck or assaulted or something like that."
Those interested must at least 21-years-old, have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid drivers license.
Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on October 30.
