JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Dozens of women volunteers are lending a helping hand to Habitat for Humanity today. They're busy building a new home in the Gulf Park Estates community in Jackson County.

This is the 8th annual Women Build project.

Among the female teams are some familiar faces, including Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran, Gautier City Manager Samantha Abell and Gautier Councilwoman, Mary Martin.

Along with donating their time to help build the home, each volunteer is also hoping to raise $350 for Habitat.

They raised the first wall around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

"We're ahead of schedule," said Samantha Abell "We've got the teamwork going."

Across the nation, more than 15,000 women have volunteered this year at various Women Build events.

Steve Phillips will tell you more about this nation-wide project tonight on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
