D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

Surveillance video from a D’Iberville liquor store has gone viral, and the owners say they never expected that to happen. Store co-owner, Brittany Nguyen, says with Cruisin’ the Coast in town it was a busy day at Dang's Liquor and Wine.

“It was toward the end of the night, and that's when we have a lot of customers coming in and they were suspicious,” said Nguyen.

Nguyen says the suspect’s activity is what provoked them to go back and check the surveillance video. The footage revealed what appears to be a man and a woman shoplifting bottles of liquor, and then the alleged female suspect does a little dance.

“It was hilarious to us. So, we decided just to post on Facebook for our friends just to see,” said Nguyen.

She had no idea the post would go viral.

“Overnight we woke up, it's like 20 or 30 thousand people viewed it. So, it was surprising how social media can span,” said Nguyen.

Now that video has been shared tens of thousands of times and someone even put it to a popular song called “Hit the Quan”. One of the people who shared the original video was the store's distributor.

“When I first saw it I thought it was pretty funny. I thought it was hilarious, the woman dancing like she just made a victory, like oh I just got over on these people, but little did she know that they got her on camera,” said Justin Pickich.

Store owners and D'iberville police are crediting a surveillance system for the clear video of the suspects. While shoplifting is a serious crime, Captain Terry Hines says having the video go viral has actually been helpful to the case.

“Social media is such a great tool for us, because we were able to get information from the people relatively quickly, and identify possible suspects because of social media,” said Captain Hines.

Captain Hines says store owners have every right to post this type of video, and he actually encourages it, as long as the businesses contact them first.
