ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - An assisted living facility in St. Martin had to evacuate 36 of its residents Monday after a fire broke out inside the building.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the fire was reported just before 3:30 a.m. at Lemoyne Place, located on Lemoyne Boulevard.
Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies, the Fort Bayou Fire Department and Acadian Ambulance Service helped the staff with evacuations, and two residents had to be taken to Ocean Springs Hospital for treatment.
Ezell said the fire was contained to one room, but smoke spread throughout the building. After the flames were extinguished and smoke was vented from the building, residents were allowed back inside.
Ezell said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
