BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - High school football teams are making their move with Region games underway. Beginning at 10:15 p.m. on WLOX-ABC/CBS the Friday Night Football Showdown highlights six games.
In the Bay, arch-rivals Bay High and St. Stanislaus clash in the annual Battle for the Crab Trap at Brother Phillip Memorial Stadium.
The Rockachaws offense continues to score lost of point and will face a Bay High team that will be motivated, trying to pull an upset in the Region 8-4A clash. St. Stanislaus is celebrating 100 years of football and the milestone will be recognized tonight.
The East Central Hornets travel to Pass Christian in another Region 8-4A showdown. East Central has been one of the surprise teams along with Pass Christian. Both the Hornets and Pirates have posted 4-2 records, 1-0 in the region standings.
Pass Christian has a solid defense and the Pirates assignment will be to try and contain East Central running back A.J. Davis who ripped off 317 yards and 5 touchdowns last week in a win over Moss Point.
In Region 4-6A, Harrison Central travels to St. Martin. The Red Rebels under head coach Casey Cain have caught fire with back-to-back wins in region play. The Yellow Jackets bounced back under the win column last week and rolled past Hancock 63-30 to improve to 1 and 1 in the Region race. This should be an exciting Friday Night Football Showdown.
George County was involved in a controversial 42-35 setback to Gulfport last Friday. It appeared that the Rebels had scored a touchdown that would have sent the game into overtime. The official closest to the play called a catch in the end zone a touchdown. However, when the player went down, a Gulfport player stood up holding the football. The officials met after the play and later ruled that the Admiral player intercepted the football.
George County travels to D'Iberville looking for its first Region 4-6A win on the road at D'Iberville. The Warriors have been inconsistent this season, going 1 and 1 in the Region, following a 24-0 loss to Ocean Springs last Friday.
Gulfport takes aim on a third consecutive Region 4-6A win hosting Hancock at Milner Stadium. The Admirals feature one of the most durable running backs in Deon Cole. The Hawks feature quarterback Aaron Feazelle and running back Michael Scardino.
Pascagoula is on the road at West Harrison. The Panthers and Hurricanes clash in a Region 4-5A game and will be featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown.
The action gets underway on WLOX-ABC/CBS at 10:15 p.m. followed by the Friday Night Football Showdown Post Game Show at 10:35 p.m. You can watch the Post Game Show by logging on to WLOX.com. Tyler Bouldin and I will review the games with high school coaches and with Al Jones and Dave Ryan.
