HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

We're learning new information about the woman accused of stabbing her 3-year-old son. WLOX News has learned that Nomatter Gava-Hudson is under suicide watch at the Harrison County Jail where she awaits her first court appearance on a charge of attempted murder in the stabbing of the toddler.

Mike Lacy has been working to uncover details about what led to this terrible crime. Thursday afternoon, Mike spoke with Jabari Hudson, the father of the little boy recovering from stab wounds and the husband of Gava-Hudson. He wants people to know his son is “doing well.”

Hudson and his wife look happy in Facebook photos, but late Monday night, they were in Jones Park, and witnesses said the couple was arguing. Hudson said they were outside their car when Gava-Hudson stabbed their son and then began stabbing herself.

"I was making my way toward her, and that's when it happened," said Hudson.

He didn't share why he and his wife were arguing, but said "she wasn't pleased with certain things."

According to the affidavit from Gulfport police, witnesses said Hudson was "screaming for someone to help because his wife had stabbed their child." The affidavit goes on to say that Gava-Hudson admitted she tried to kill her son and then herself.

She is in the Harrison County Jail under a $1 million bond and an immigration hold. Gava-Hudson is from Zimbabwe. Officials tell us even if she was able to post bond, she would be immediately detained by immigration authorities.

Hudson's only comment about the heinous charges against his wife was, "We have her in our prayers." He asked that people "keep him and his son in their prayers."

The boy is in stable condition at USA Medical Center in Mobile, AL.

Hudson is in the Air Force stationed at Keesler and said he's had a lot of support from his family and coworkers.
