PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Introducing kids to fishing will be the focal point Saturday at Beach Park in Pascagoula. The Coastal Conservation Association's Horn Island chapter will hold its annual Casting for Conservation Kids Fishing Rodeo from 8 a.m. to noon.

The rodeo is open to kids aged four to 13, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

“It's all about having fun and letting the kids fish,” Jerry Munro, of CCA, said. “We want the parents to come out and fish with their kids.”

Kids will receive a free rod and reel, bait and T-shirt. Lunch and refreshments will also be served.

A new twist this year includes each angler being weighed and specially fitted for a free life jacket.

“We will also teach the kids how to tie knots and bait their hooks,” Munro said. “Everyone that comes out is a winner. This is about giving kids a chance to fish.”
