Statistics suggest that one in four women will be a victim of severe physical domestic violence in their lifetime. And it comes at the hands of their husband or boyfriend. This awful conduct can even lead to death.
We had four domestic violence homicides in South Mississippi since August according to the Gulf Coast Women's Center for Nonviolence. The center is asking our leaders and all of us to lend our voices to stopping this senseless violence against women.
We agree. Domestic violence is a serious health issue.
The women's center offers shelter, counseling and other services to anyone in an abusive situation. We need more good people to speak up and stand up to protect those being abused.
