HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Fifteen Harrison Central High students complaining of minor injuries were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after their school bus was involved in an accident on Highway 49. The accident happened at 7:45 a.m. just south of School Road near the entrance to the high school. Harrison County Schools Transportation Director Larry Benefield, described the accident as "a minor fender-bender."
"It appears that a small car pulled into the side of the bus as it was about to turn into Harrison Central High," Benefield said.
Fifteen students were taken, by bus, to the hospital as a precaution. Benefield said their injuries appeared to be minor. There were 46 students on the bus at the time of the accident. The remaining students boarded another bus and were taken to school.
Benefield said the car involved in the accident was not driven by students. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
