BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi and Gulfport are teaming up to offer ultra high-speed Internet services at affordable rates.
The mayors of both cities say they want to create a commission to lay the foundation for a broadband corridor for the Gulf Coast.
The measure was approved by the Biloxi and Gulfport city councils on Tuesday. The technology would be offered to homes, businesses and schools.
"With this cutting edge technology at an affordable rate, it will encourage new businesses to come here and start up and old businesses to expand, it will encourage our schools and colleges and universities to concentrate more on computer science and high tech, it's a whole new area of jobs that we need here," Gerald Blessey said.
City leaders plan to apply for $15 million in Restore Act funds to get the project started.
