JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A six-month investigation into a series of pharmacy burglaries in Jackson and Harrison Counties has come to an end, and Sheriff Mike Ezell said two men have been arrested on charges of commercial burglary.
Ezell said Michael Joseph Petty, 30, and Kirk Saber Parker, 18, are accused of burglarizing the Save Rite Pharmacy on Washington Avenue in St. Martin on Sept. 25.
Ezell said Parker was arrested without incident at his Ocean Springs home on Quail Creek Drive on Friday, Oct. 2.
Petty, of Gulfport, was arrested Monday in D'Iberville by members of the Jackson County Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division, the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, Moss Point Detectives and D'Iberville Police Department.
Ezell said investigators found large amounts of prescription narcotics at the time of Petty's arrest. Investigators believe those pills came from the pharmacy burglaries in Jackson and Harrison Counties.
Ezell said more charges are possible as the investigation moves forward. Both men are being held at the Jackson County Jail pending initial court appearances.
If convicted of commercial burglary, Petty and Parker could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
