SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency announced on Sunday that they are sending Public Information Office Brett Carr to Columbia, South Carolina to 'support response and recovery efforts to ongoing heavy rain and flooding.'
"We are proud to be able to send more support to our friends in South Carolina as they deal with historic and potentially catastrophic amounts of rain and flooding," said MEMA Executive Director Robert Latham. "Keeping the public informed is a critical part of the response and recovery operations and Brett is one of the most experienced PIO's in the country."
According to a release sent to WLOX News Now, South Carolina specifically requested support from Mississippi personnel. The EMA Compact allows state-to-state support during disasters, and is an agreement signed by all 50 states and U.S. Territories.
The state of South Carolina covers deployment expenses. MEMA says they are prepared to send additional support if requested.
