BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The 403rd Wing's Security Forces Squadron is training on a new state-of-the-art virtual system at Keesler Air Force Base.

The virtual Firearm Training System (FATS) is used to put men and women in scenarios to test their performance under pressure and strengthen their ability to react. According to Keesler officials, the training allows a more cost efficient experience that can be conducted in a central location.

The virtual training is being used as a supplement to training in a physical environment. Trainees use artificial rifles and handguns that are connected to a computer wirelessly.

Tonight on WLOX News Now, Jonathan Brannan will have more details about how the new system is being implemented.
