D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

A Florida couple was arrested in South Mississippi in connection to a bogus baseball scam. According to D'Iberville Police Shane Simpson, 36, and Autumn Burkett, 25, were taken into custody Thursday. 

Investigators say the pair was selling baseballs they claimed were signed by Babe Ruth. The couple also included a forged certificate of authenticity.

According to officials, about 13 businesses across five states were affected. Combined, the business have estimated losses in the thousands.

D'Iberville Police were able to recover one of the baseballs, along with the forged certificate to verify the items were not authentic. 

According to police, Burkett is Simpson's long time girlfriend. They were taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, and bond was set at $10,000. Both are facing charges of false pretense.
