PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Thursday night, Pascagoula High School's homecoming parade will have a special guest.
Pascagoula native Sarah Thomas, who shattered the glass ceiling in the NFL to be hired as its first official, will be the grand marshal.
Born in South Mississippi, Thomas is a graduate of Pascagoula High School where she was an outstanding basketball player.
The parade begins at 6 p.m. just off Market Street, and will last about 45 minutes.
There will be a pep rally/bonfire afterward, and Thomas will be presented with a plaque about 7:15 p.m.
School district communications director Debbie Anglin says that the homecoming event was coordinated by Elizabeth Bonilla, but the idea to have Thomas as grand marshal was that of the students.
Bonilla reached out to Thomas' mother who then got back in touch with school officials.
Mike Lacy will have more on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
