BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Biloxi City Council voted Wednesday to table a resolution which involves a street improvement project and a conflict between Imperial Palace Casino and a neighborhood pawn shop.
At issue is the planned realignment of North Fayard Street at Bayview Avenue. The owner of the corner pawn shop says the proposed changes will unfairly limit parking at the business. IP Casino officials say the proposed project will make the intersection safer and more beautiful.
The city council approved a resolution last week allowing the changes to go forward. After nearly an hour of debate Wednesday, they tabled an amendment which called for vacating a small portion of Fayard Street.
"The IP is paying for all the improvements, is what I see, which is going to benefit the City of Biloxi," said Council President Felix Gines. "Our concern is, are we going to improve the streets and improve the community, without hurting any party?"
The project has been in the works for about three years.
