KISSIMMEE, FL (WLOX) -

Allen Beverages of Gulfport just won a prestigious award from PepsiCo North America Beverages. At its national bottler meeting, Allen Beverages was named the Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year for 2014.

The award is named for PepsiCo’s beloved former chairman and chief executive officer. It was created in 1994 to honor excellence among independent Pepsi-Cola bottlers in the United States and Canada.

Allen Beverages was one of three finalists recognized for outstanding franchise performance, including customer service, retail and foodservice execution, quality and community support.

The award was presented to Allen Beverages President and CEO Drew Allen by Mr. Kendall along with PNAB CEO Al Carey and Mario Mercurio, senior vice president and general manager of PNAB’s Franchise Business Unit.

“We’ve weathered more than a few storms here in Gulfport,” said Allen. “This award is a great testament to the resiliency and tenacity of our people, our customers and our community, with whom my family and I are honored to share it.”

“Pepsi’s independent bottling partners are extraordinary businesspeople,” said Mercurio.  “No one franchise has performed more remarkably in the past year than Drew and his Allen Beverages team.  They bring a high-share mentality and expertise to a comparatively small market, providing outstanding customer service while giving back generously to their community.”

Also honored as Donald M. Kendall Bottler of the Year finalists were Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Atmore, Alabama, and Pepsi Bottling Ventures of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
