GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The American Cancer Society estimates one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport is working to lower that number.
On Tuesday, the hospital is offering free prostate screenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The free screenings will happen at Garden Park Medical Center, located at 15200 Community Road.
The screenings include a prostate exam, Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) and Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA).
The PSA is designed to detect a protein made in small amounts by a normal prostate and usually made in great amounts by prostate cancer cells.
One of Garden Park's affiliated physicians will interpret your results. You will receive the results via mail. If necessary, the correspondence will include recommendations for a follow up appointment. Results may take up to 21 business days to be reviewed and mailed.
Doctors encourage men to go out and get the screening that could save their lives by detecting cancer at an early stage.
