DMR to open additional waters to shrimpers Monday

MISSISSIPPI SOUND (WLOX) -

The Department of Marine Resources is getting ready to open additional waters to South Mississippi shrimpers, according to spokeswoman Melissa Scallan.

Starting Monday, Sept. 28, at 6 a.m., all waters south and west of a line beginning at Biloxi Bay Channel Beacon “18,” running northwest to Biloxi Bay Channel Beacon “22,” then northwest to Biloxi Bay Channel Beacon “26,” then west to Beacon “34,” exclusive of the Biloxi Channel, then west to Beacon “30,” in the Biloxi Channel, exclusive of the Biloxi Channel, then due south to a point on Deer Island will be open to shrimpers.

Recreational and commercial shrimp season will close at midnight on Dec. 31, north of the Intracoastal Waterway and at midnight on April 30, 2016, south of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Live bait shrimping is open year-round to licensed live bait vessels.
