OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Gulf Islands National Seashore will hold two volunteer clean-up events this Saturday in honor of National Public Lands Day.
Volunteers will assist with trash pickup and trail restoration from 9am-11am in the following locations:
-Davis Bayou in Mississippi (meet at the William. M. Colmer Visitor Center)
-Fort Pickens in Florida (meet at the entrance to the fort)
"Our goal is not just to clean the beaches, it is also to educate people about keeping the beaches clean in the first place," stated Superintendent Brown referring to the "Pack it in – Pack it out" policy adopted by Gulf Islands National Seashore to stem the tide of litter on the beach.
As a show of appreciation for their support, clean-up volunteers will get a fee-free coupon that they can use for a future visit to any of the participating national parks within the next 12 months.
As part of the celebration of National Park Public Lands Day, all national parks will offer free admission on Saturday. The 22nd annual event encourages everyone to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.
