D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - It was a big night at The Grand Theater in D'Iberville where dozens of South Mississippians came out to catch the premiere of "A Girl Like Grace."
"We just started our theatrical run, so we wanted to start in Mississippi, basically because this is where we shot it. So, we wanted to let the people of Mississippi see it first," said movie producer Mark Keith.
The film stars some well-known actresses like Raven Symone, Meagan Good and Garcelle Beauvais, who won an African Oscar for best supporting actress in the movie. Matt Keith, one of the producers of the film, said the Coast has a lot going for it as far as the movie industry goes.
"The people are great, lot of great locations you know. So, I think this is my fourth or fifth film here that I've done in the last two years. Not necessarily on the Coast, but in Mississippi, and everything's gone really well," said Matt.
Of course, the movie featured some local talent as well. Aspiring music artist Young JoJo, of Gulfport, had a special role with the film.
"It was a blessing. I mean, just the ultimate experience. It was great just being able to write music for it and learn so much and soak up so much as far as the entertainment business," said Young JoJo.
Young JoJo's song, "Outta Control," is featured in the movie. He says the growing Coast film industry has the ability to put entertainment opportunities right at your backdoor.
"It's great for the Coast in general, you know, as far as the kids the teenagers, and everybody just having that dream and seeing that it can come true, definitely," said JoJo.
"A Girl Like Grace" will be screened Monday night in Baton Rouge and Friday night in New York City. A national release date has not been announced.
