OLA beat Resurrection 3 games to 2 in a thrilling volleyball match Tuesday night

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Resurrection head coach Keith Tucker has built the Lady Eagles into a volleyball contender.  Before Tuesday's match at OLA, the Lady Eagles had posted a 20-2-1 record, 2 and 0 in the District.

Resurrection is ranked No. 12 in the Mississippi  MaxPreps state rankings.

Our Lady Academy has capture numerous 1A/2A/3A State Volleyball titles and entered the Resurrection match with a 12-7 record, 2 and 0 in the District standings tied with the Lady Eagles.

Coach Mike Meyers Crescents are ranked No. 18 in the state rankings.

Resurrection pulled out a 25-23 victory in the first set behind the play of senior Jada Williams.

OLA came back to capture the second set 27-25 and the third set 25-17.

Resurrection didn't fold.  The Lady Eagles came back to win the fourth set 26-24, forcing a fifth set.

In a 5-set match, the final game the winner must reach 15 points.

Emma Funk was instrumental in all five sets for OLA and was a factor in the final set.  The sophomore was outstanding on the night.  She totaled 39 kills and 3 blocks.  Junior Mary Rimmer added 21 kills.

In a losing cause, senior Jada Williams led Resurrection with 15 kills and 4 blocks.  Icy Walley added 11 kills and 3 blocks.

Two weeks ago OLA head coach Meyers told me that he had a young team, one that was improving and that showed Tuesday night.  Rimmer has returned to the lineup after recovering from a knee injury.

The Crescents have only one senior on the team, three juniors, three sophomores, four freshmen and one eight grader.

You can expect both Resurrection and OLA to be in the hunt for the state championship.
